Newsflash

24th April 2012

In the last 2 weeks, Centro da Comunidade has been focusing on the elderly, as we are getting a low number of pre-schoolers and English students. 2 ladies went to have operations on their eyes in the city (transport and assistant by SWMH) but typical Moz’, it was cancelled and rescheduled for next month. We had a fabulous donation of vegetables from a producer locally and 18 of them had a fantastic meal and went home with a bag to cook for themselves. We have had 2 new comers and one death, so we are supporting 21 elderly now.

Our easter had a rather interesting, ironic end with a new comer to Pre-school- but in the form of a chicken who came to lay an egg in the play house inside the school!!! We have had to chase her away so she doesn’t lay more and hope to nestle her chicks there (although this would be quite cute!) The pre-schoolers have be learning about the world and recently focused on England, we had afternoon tea and fish and chips and tried playing croquet!! We would love to see what’s happening in schools in England, so any photos from schools, nurseries would be warmly welcomed.

A funny thought recently was to do finger play with messy foods (just like I had seen in Threegables nursery, Uk) but of course with the children of Inhassune having so little food to eat, it would be a crime to have them play with food, rather than eat it! Pasta and rice are staple daily needs for them, so we have had to forget that idea!!

Large branches of a tree had to be cut down on the sight as it was completely shading our solar panel and this time of year the sun sets t 5pm, so we need all we can get! A door was fixed to our store shed and some cupboards are being locally crafted for the volunteer house.

The play equipment is being used fully, every day so it is all wearing down quickly. We will soon need to do some welding and purchasing. Donations will be warmly received as the play area makes a big happy difference to a lot of children’s lives in the village of Inhassune.

We are on a fundraising mission to stay afloat at the moment, so we are starting a penny campaign. We want all your pennies. A penny can buy 4 x more here than it can in the UK, can you spare a penny? Contact us.

Excel in the grace of giving…if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have….our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality as it is written: ‘He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.’

2 Corinthians 8:7-15

Current Project PDF Print E-mail

SWMH's current project is a community school in Inhassune, Panda District, Inhambane Province in Mozambique,

'Escola da Comunidade' (tb 'Centro da Comunidade')

We opened our doors in September 2010 and now into 2012, the school hosts many of the community every week for lessons and workshops, including early years teaching - nursery and pre-schoolers, many elderly, babies, various parents and youngsters. People come to learn english and computers and share in our developing resource bank. We have built some new houses (as some of the community still have small reed huts remaining from the war.) We have a choir and are supporting the local football team and have our own junior team, (who are actually quite good!) Individuals can come to us for help in a certain area, we even offer business opportunies once a week - helping people to aspire to greater ventures, profits and see more opportunity in their developing country.
