o This includes a healthy meal, every week, a sharing of the bible and prayers together, various activities including skills such as painting, cutting, sticking and glueing (most had never done this in their lives before.) They watch movies, and learn reading skills through access to books and magazines. They have made pictures to decorate their huts and shared toys and games time with the opposite generation. Every week they sing and dance together and love our maracas! We have fed 24 elderly people, averaging 17 a week, but lost 2 of them, who sadly have passed on.
o Two elderly women who were living in shacks, which let the rain flood in, now have new homes and are happy safe and dry.
o We have been washing clothes, cleaning huts, and bathing the physically incapable, providing transport to a decent doctor and basic medicines on site. We have also given clothes, shoes, sunglasses, suncream (for albinos), eye drops, umbrellas, and hats to those with specific needs, including orphans and given medical treatment for burns (which seems to be a regular occurance for the younger children.)
o We have run lessons with dictionaries and dual language texts to follow in class and borrow, included fun activities audio resources and films to watch.
o They are in local language (xitswa) and have been heard and enjoyed by over 50 people in the village, including a young blind boy who benefitted from the braile control buttons.
o Every lesson these kids get a snack and drink to enjoy, we have given milk and like try to vary the foods as much as possible.
o Although we wanted the mothers to join in also, without them we have still welcomed over 15 different babies in and seen wonderful development in their communication skills and enjoyment/personalities. Most of these 1 and 2 year olds bring themselves to school!
o 3 mornings a week, 27 children have learned reading skills, write letters, count, add, draw, paint, create, build, play music, to do various physical exercise, play games and enjoy our swings, slide and toys.
o We sing about Jesus and God in 3 different languages, we dance and use instruments and decorative equipment too, like ribbons. We have done performances and are learn about music and culture in different countries.
o We have welcomed all orphans in the village for an afternoon a week and tried to meet any needs they have but generally spent time with them on creative and team tasks - helping their confidence and social skills.
o Celso just finished class 9, (we also funded his accommodation as there is no school in his home village) and Paieto finished class 10 with great grades, they both would not be able to afford school otherwise. Antonetta finished class 7.
o Water is pumped only for 5 hours a day to 5 village taps for us to use, so for everything but drinking we try to utilise the rain water.
o We have harvested lettuce, potatoes and carrots but are now watching courgettes, aubergine, peas, tomatoes and more grow. They will be used to feed mainly the elderly and snacks for the children.
o There was nothing for children to play on or with in the village. It has been played on so much it now needs fixing!
o We actually have 2, A and B, they have kits and are up to scratch of the big boys village team. We train them once a week and have played regularly matches with other teams, sometimes with a success.
o Giving them knowledge and practice of important programs and access to the world wide web.
o Some have returned to share their financial successes.
o From UK, South Africa and Belgium, from 18years to 60years!
o Monthly and one off donations, corporate application for funding, volunteers and fundraising events. |
